Top food & beverage brands on Shopify Plus.

With the UK’s Food and Beverage market expected to reach £315.2 billion by 2028, it’s no surprise that many brands are searching for the best platform to stand out in such a competitive space. Shopify’s ease of use and powerful scalability have positioned it as the platform of choice for ambitious brands looking to drive growth and success rapidly. Let’s take a look at some of the most up-and-coming and globally recognised food and beverage brands on Shopify.

A further look: the best food & beverage brands on Shopify Plus.

1. Heinz.

Beans, beans… we all know the song! Heinz, the iconic brand synonymous with beans, sauces, and condiments, has spent the last 155 years building an unmistakable logo and a heritage that cements its place in history. With Heinz products found in 9 out of 10 UK homes, it’s no surprise they’re one of the most recognised names worldwide. However, much of their success was rooted in offline sales, with consumers primarily purchasing their products in stores—until a few years ago.

Looking to create a more direct connection with their customers, Heinz launched a D2C site during the pandemic, offering promotional discounts to support frontline workers. Shopify Plus proved to be the perfect solution, allowing the brand to quickly and cost-effectively establish storefronts in any region or language worldwide—a vital capability for a global powerhouse like Heinz. Incredibly, the initial site went live in just two weeks and soon expanded to six countries with stores in two languages, each managed by independent teams.

2. Misfits.

Misfits has revolutionised the protein bar industry by creating vegan protein bars that are not only high in protein and low in sugar but also taste like delicious chocolate bars. The brand has successfully combined health benefits with great flavour, and with no compromises in sight, its new Shopify Plus store had to reflect this ethos.

As Misfits experienced rapid growth, the blubolt team knew they needed to design a Shopify Plus site that would not only support the brand’s current needs but also adapt to future expansion. The result is a site that offers Misfits enhanced in-house editing, a fresh design, and powerful subscription and bundle-building capabilities.

One standout feature of the new site is the custom bundle builder that blubolt developed. This allows customers to create their own bundles with a tiered discount system for 3, 4, or 5 items. Additionally, customers can choose to have their deliveries scheduled as frequently as they like for two products, offering flexibility and catering to a wide range of needs. Misfits' eCommerce manager, Josh Brockman, agrees that their new website is “perfectly designed for our next stage of growth." Read more about the Misfits project here.

3. Pepsi Co’s Pantry Shop.

As one of America’s most iconic brands, PepsiCo boasts a staggering market value of over $192.6 billion and stands as a leader in the soft drink industry, just behind its rival, Coca-Cola. During the pandemic, like many global brands, PepsiCo sought innovative ways to connect with customers and maintain sales in a rapidly changing landscape.

By turning to Shopify Plus, PepsiCo successfully extended its global reach online, reportedly generating $2 billion in online sales in 2019 alone. The site’s user-friendly navigation and seamless shopping experience likely played a key role in this achievement, alongside the enduring popularity of PepsiCo’s products. Consumers continue to appreciate the convenience of shopping for their favourite brands from the comfort of their homes—solidifying PepsiCo’s digital success.

4. MaxiNutrition.

Founded in 1995, MaxiNutrition brings years of expertise in providing premium-grade supplements that enhance athletic performance, fuel muscle growth, and support recovery.

In search of greater flexibility, in-house control, and a lower total cost of ownership, Shopify Plus emerged as the ideal solution. As our Delivery Lead, Kaja Sztuczka, highlights, “Shopify Plus also reduces the total cost of ownership so they can focus on growing the brand.”

With a focus on high-quality products, the new site now effectively showcases clear and concise product information, providing a seamless browsing experience for customers. However, the upgraded experience doesn’t stop there—it extends all the way through to checkout. Thanks to the replatforming to Shopify Plus, MaxiNutrition now benefits from a range of enhanced functionalities, including a streamlined one-step checkout, new product bundles with Shopify Bundles, and a gift-with-purchase feature, all contributing to a smoother, more efficient customer journey. 5. WatchHouse.

WatchHouse is renowned for its high-quality, ethically sourced coffee and food, served across 21 unique stores in the UK and US. Each location is uniquely designed, embodying the Modern Coffee experience while offering something distinct to its community. Undoubtedly, this experience couldn’t just stop in-store, as the WatchHouse team wanted to extend this experience to their online store with an inspirational eCommerce site.

Collaborating with WatchHouse, our talented Design Lead, Madeleine Gale, recognised the significance of creating a design worthy of such a premium brand. As she explains, “Our goal was to ensure the design felt unique to the WatchHouse brand and conveyed the premium nature of their products and locations.”

With Shopify Plus and the expertise of our team, WatchHouse now benefits from enhanced functionality and a sleek, sophisticated online presence. They’ve also gained greater in-house control and flexibility, empowering them to adapt and evolve their site effortlessly to meet changing needs. Read more about the WatchHouse project here.

6. Nestlé.

A global leader in the food and beverage industry, Nestlé is renowned for its diverse range of products, from confectionery and frozen foods to pet care. Home to iconic brands like KitKat, Nescafé, and Nespresso, Nestlé continues to be a household name worldwide.

In its quest to build stronger customer relationships, Nestlé embraced eCommerce through Shopify, enabling consumers to purchase their favourite products directly online. A key advantage of this shift has been the ability to gain valuable insights into customer purchasing behaviours, which help inform strategies to drive the company’s global growth.

As a high-performance eCommerce platform for large-scale merchants, Shopify has also empowered Nestlé to launch successful campaigns, such as the Nescafé Sweet and Creamy initiative, aimed at helping millennials navigate the challenges of “adulting.” These innovative efforts ensure that Nestlé’s rich heritage remains relevant in today’s ever-evolving marketplace.

7. teapigs.

With over 157 Great Taste Awards, teapigs is recognised as one of the leading brands for high-quality, sustainable whole-leaf tea. While they infuse joy and fun into the tea market, their rapid expansion spans both D2C and B2B, harnessing the powerful features of Shopify Plus to support both channels.

At blubolt, we believed it was essential to capture the brand’s personality throughout the site. With the help of our dedicated team, the teapigs brand now enjoys a range of unique features, including a customisable subscription service that allows customers to curate their own personalised tea selection box. This not only offers a more intuitive and enjoyable way to explore their extensive product range but also gives teapigs greater in-house control over their website, ensuring it can scale alongside their growth. 8. Adnams.

Dating back as far as 1872, Adnams has been crafting exceptional cask ale and bottled beer for over 150 years, often using locally sourced ingredients. Globally recognised for their ‘world’s best’ Longshore Vodka, Adnams is known for producing first-class products. In line with this reputation, the brand sought a top-tier website with Shopify Plus.

After undergoing a rebrand, it was crucial for Adnams to carry this fresh new identity over to their Shopify Plus site. The design team at blubolt set out to create a sophisticated, streamlined theme that would reflect the brand’s legacy while offering modern functionality. By leveraging Shopify’s Online Store 2.0 and utilising the ‘Sections Everywhere’ feature more than 20 times, the team was able to deliver a site that elevates the Adnams brand and expands its appeal in the marketplace.

The new site is not only visually compelling but also easy to maintain, giving Adnams greater control and flexibility. The blubolt team configured as many settings as possible to allow the Adnams team to effortlessly update icons, text, colours, images, and calls to action. This approach effectively future-proofed the site, ensuring the brand can quickly adapt to changes in the marketplace and stay ahead of the competition. Read more about the Adnams project here.
