“Misfits has grown exponentially in the last two years, with the brand selling over ten million protein bars and shipping 170,000 orders to 99 different countries,” says Kaja Sztuczka, Project Manager at blubolt. “As a result, Misfits needed a new site to meet current business needs and could adapt to future requirements.” With this in mind, the blubolt team designed a Shopify Plus site that unlocked a raft of settings for greater flexibility and in-house control, a fresh design, subscriptions, and bundle-building functionality.
It looks a treat: a premium, modern redesign.
“The brand had evolved since its last website was designed, so the Misfits team completed a rebrand in time for the new site,” says Arran Brunning, Designer at blubolt. “We ensured that our theme design reflected Misfits’ fresh, contemporary, and premium new look.”
Greater in-house control with a Shopify 2.0 upgrade.
Building with Shopify’s Online Store 2.0, the blubolt team unlocked a raft of settings to give Misfits greater in-house flexibility and creative control. For example, by using Shopify’s ‘sections everywhere, ' Misfits can now easily customise the homepage, collections, and product pages without contacting the development team. In addition, the team took advantage of improvements to metafields in Online Store 2.0 to include more product information.
New bundles & subscription functionality.
“We delivered a new bundle builder for Misfits,” says Pete Heyes, Developer at blubolt. “It allows customers to build custom bundles with a tiered discount system for 3, 4 or 5 items. In addition, we worked with Recharge to deliver a seamless subscription service - Sub & Save - so Misfits can continue to build recurring revenue from loyal customers.” Misfits’ ‘Sub and Save’ subscription offering allows customers to order a regular delivery of their favourite product, with the benefit of saving money for doing so. Customers have the option to have deliveries scheduled as regularly as they would like - with options ranging from every two weeks to every six weeks - and the choice of two products. If they want to increase the frequency of deliveries, they can easily edit their subscription. The custom subscription bundle choice that is being used, alongside complex logic, ensures that each user always has two items in their subscription. At blubolt, we used further custom logic within the account area to create a ReCharge account area theme. This makes it possible to ensure that a user retains two items in their ongoing subscription, even if they make changes to their subscription along the way.
Additional tech partners for the project include Yotpo for customer reviews, Klaviyo for email marketing, and Klarna for ‘buy now, pay later’ payments.
