The challenge

Delivering native B2B with customisations on Shopify Plus.

The Porcelain Superstore team were keen to open the business up to online trade clients. After successfully migrating from Magento to Shopify Plus, they wanted to take advantage of the native Shopify B2B functionality while also providing their existing super smooth DTC eCommerce experience to B2B customers.

Bringing the sophisticated DTC design to B2B.

Porcelain Superstore already had a beautiful bespoke Shopify theme that blubolt had designed for its DTC website, but needed to adapt the messaging, logos, and information for B2B customers logging in to make wholesale purchases.

“For the B2B version of the site, we created a variation of the DTC homepage that the Porcelain Superstore team could customise in-house for their wholesale customers,” says Maddy Gale, Design Lead at blubolt. “For example, we changed the logo that B2B customers see, along with the announcement bar message telling them that they are logged in as a wholesale company and what their discount level is. We also disabled any DTC messaging and replaced it with B2B-specific information.”

Customising native Shopify B2B for enhanced features & functionality.

B2B has been booming on Shopify for good reason; the platform continues to release new features to make wholesale super-easy for merchants,” says Richard Ayles, Head of Development at blubolt. “For Porcelain Superstore, we created a trade page for B2B customers to register for a wholesale account. Following registration, the B2B customer is then set up as a company on Shopify and assigned the relevant B2B catalogue (Porcelain Superstore has a variety of pricing tiers - gold, platinum and bespoke - which are its standard prices less a fixed discount for trade). We created a pop-up for when a B2B customer logs in to inform them of their discount and ensured that a purchase order number could be mapped to a custom field in Brightpearl for easier invoicing. We also integrated Klarna so B2B customers can access buy now pay later options.”
